Sydney has done nothing but wish it was HER birthday all year long. We traveled to China right after her birthday and she has had to watch everyone else celebrate their birthday throughout the year. Finally it is her time to SHINE!! We have made all the party reservations and she has been counting the days until her big party.
Today, the Kindergarten had a field trip to the zoo. On the way there our bus was told to turn around and return to the school. Due to the Swine Flu scare, the school district has cancelled all field trips and activities. In Texas, all sporting events have been cancelled until May 11th. I was worried that this would happen and my fears have come true. Several students did not show up to school today due to the flu scare and Sydney's teacher said that the district is recommending that the students not attend parties or attend areas where a lot of children congregate. So basically, We have had to postpone Sydney's party. If we had it anyway, I feel that very few people would show up. I already had several parents call me with concerns.
I just feel for my poor little baby. To say she is devastated is an understatement. She is absolutely crushed. She has waited so long to have her first birthday party ever and she will now have to wait longer. How much longer? I do not know.
Then to top it off, she is so excited about celebrating her birthday at school tomorrow and I am bringing cupcakes up to school...but I fear a lot of kids will stay at home so will not be there to celebrate it.
Bummer....Big Bummer. We were planning to go to Medieval Times tomorrow for dinner to celebrate her birthday (we always take the children out to dinner for their birthday)....Do we still go? Would it put us at risk? I was not expecting this at all.
Hopefully we will learn more about this flu soon and that it can be contained. It is sad all around.
