I finally have had some sleep and the energy to type. It is 3:15 am by the way! I am hoping to type a little to help make me a little sleepy again.
Let's see. We arrived at Beijing and met our wonderful guide, Michelle, and headed over to our hotel. The weather here is very nice so far. There is a haze in the air but at least it is not too hot. I haven't noticed any breathing difficulties due to the smog. We love our hotel, Crowne Plaza, and have had a chance to walk around and get to know our surroundings. Our rooms are nice and Elizabeth loves how the sinks are much lower! She can reach everything in the hotel with ease so she said this is the best hotel ever. We ate "dinner" at a nice restaurant in our hotel around 2:30 pm. Mark, Andrew and I walked around the neighborhood for a while to try and stay awake. The area reminded us of New York and felt very comfortable getting to know the area. We have noticed how most signs and the buildings have been translated into English in preparation for the Olympics.
A high school student spoke with us for a while to practice his English. He was very nice and spoke extremely well.
In the morning, we head out bright and early to see some sights. We have a very busy day ahead. We will visit Tiananmen S quare, Forbidden City, lunch at a local restaurant, the Hutong tour in which we take a rickshaw tour through some parts of the "old style" of Beijing, see an acrobat show, and have our traditional peking duck dinner!
We love China so far and can't believe that we only have 3 days until we meet Sydney.
